We can all innovate! We own our ideas!

Innovation can be linked to financial reward!

The Intellectual Property Office is supporting an exciting and innovative exhibition at the Science Museum, London. The exhibition featuring Oscar® winners Wallace & Gromit, is entitled "Wallace & Gromit Present A World of Cracking Ideas" and will run for six months from March 2009. It will feature interactive displays focussing on innovation and intellectual property and be built around Wallace & Gromit's house, their garden and garden shed. The exhibition will be themed around the above and demonstrate to visitors that innovation and creativity have value if protected.

Ideas can be exploited if protected by intellectual property rights.

The Intellectual Property Office, an operating name of the Patent Office, is the official government body responsible for granting intellectual property rights in the UK. These rights include copyright, designs, patents and trade marks.

The Intellectual Property Office supports innovation in a number of ways, for example:

  • By registering IP rights (patents, trade marks and registered designs)
  • By promoting the benefits of intellectual property (IP)
  • By keeping IP law and policy up to date

This encourages people to spend time and money developing their innovations, which facilitates the growth of industry and commerce, which in turn has an impact on the overall performance of the UK economy. So this is important stuff.
