This project is designed to help you create a range (or brand) of footwear with different designs (or styles) for each family member.
The aim is to come up with your own family footwear brand (e.g. SmithsShoes ) that caters to a wide range of needs (Mum, Dad, Sister, Grandma, Dog… and so on)
Start by taking a long hard look at the shoes and clothes each family member wears already, to get an idea of the things they like (i.e. their taste). Then think about the various uses each family member will have for their shoes (E.g. football, work, walking to school, shopping, dancing etc.).
Design a trademark logo for your range of shoes. This could use your family name (like Marks & Spencer®) or a symbol (like the Nike® tick). Then pick a colour or range of colours that all family members’ shoes will share.
Thinking about the taste and needs of each family member, design them a pair of shoes, boots, sandals, skates, skis (or other footwear). Draw each pair on a separate sheet of paper, remembering to add the family logo and to use only the colours you chose to put in your range. If you can find an old pair of shoes, you could try customising then to look like one of your designs (please ask Mum or Dad first).
Show the family their new footwear designs. If you have customised your own shoes, you might like to make a catwalk from a long sheet of paper and model them.
Ask everyone to make suggestions for improving their footwear – or to design an alternative for themselves or another family member. You could turn this into a competition and vote for the winner.
